The
adoption fee and what it includes:
Well, here's the lowdown. Each of our cats and kittens
have already been:
- Spayed or neutered
- Tested for FeLV (Feline Leukemia) & FIV (Feline AIDS)
- Vaccinated for Upper Respiratory Complex (FVRCP) (current for
age)
- Vaccinated for Rabies if older than 4 months
(For Rabies, we use Merial
PUREVAX® Feline Rabies)
- Treated with Frontline or Revolution for fleas
- Treated for worms (tape and roundworm)
- Given a mani/pedi nail treatment
- Given a HomeAgain microchip (For info on microchips,
click here or call 1-866-PET-ID24 (1-866-738-4324).
- Offered veterinary care for selected "shelter-related"
illnesses (speak to staff member for details)
Each kitty
also comes with a 20% off coupon for Pet
Food Express. These services would ordinarily cost
anywhere from $300 to $500, so you're saving a whole
lot of money! Of course a larger adoption donation of
is always welcome, since many times we must provide
additional medical care such as surgery for injuries
or congenital problems, x-rays, blood panels, fecal
tests, treatment for ear, eye, upper respiratory infections,
ring worm and viruses. We also supply treatment for
anything your new kitty may have gotten while with us
that doesn't show up until you take your kitty home.
But please remember once you've adopted a new pet into
your family, all veterinary care thereafter is your
responsibility for the life of your pet.

Ensuring good homes for our rescues To help ensure that we place our cats in loving, responsible, and committed homes, we have a screening process involved in adopting a pet from
the Nine Lives Foundation. We reserve the right to turn down potential adopters as we deem necessary. Occasionally, a home
delivery or visit may be made a required part of the adoption procedure. |
**Kitten Policy
Based on experience we've developed a policy to to adopt all kittens under 6 months out in pairs. Paired kittens are returned much less often and grow into better behaved adults.
We also insist that kittens do not leave the same day they are adopted. If you find a kitten that you love we'll schedule an appointment for you to take your new
family member home. Click here to read about why two kittens are better than one.
"Two cats can live as cheaply as one, and their owner has twice as much fun." --Lloyd Alexander

Return Policy If for any reason you wish or need to return a cat you've adopted from us, you can do so within
two weeks for a full refund of the adoption donation. After that, be it months or years later, if you need to give up your
Nine Lives Foundation cat or kitten, and you are unable to find a suitable home, you return him/her to
the Nine Lives Foundation. We won't be able to refund the adoption fee, but we will place him/her in a new home. We don't ever want our kitties to end up on the streets or at the
shelter again! |

Barn Cats The term "barn cats" refers to any cats that do not adapt to indoor homes. Sometimes the cats are
feral, which means they were born and raised in the wild with little or no human contact. Others are
strays, cats that were once domestic but reverted to unsocialized behavior after long periods of
surviving on their own. Still others are indoor/outdoor cats. Indoor/outdoor cats may be friendly
but cannot be litter-trained because of medical conditions or other problems.
Barn cats need safe, permanent outdoor homes with one or more areas of weather-proof shelter and
a continual source of food and clean water. They thrive on rural or semi-rural properties where they
can put their natural hunting abilities to good use. Owners of dairy farms, stables and other
properties where grain is stored will confirm that cats are a must to avoid rodent infestations! Those
that tolerate human companionship also do well in homes where they can spend most of the time
outside but can come indoors for food and warmth in severe weather.

 Exchange
Policy If at anytime during the lifetime of your cat you find that the cat or kitten you adopted
isn't a good fit in your home or life, we will allow you to try another
kitty. Our goal is to place the "right" cat in the "right" home, we know
that this can take time. |
Making
a Commitment
Nine Lives Foundation cats are for life... so we're always here to answer questions and help solve problems. By adopting a cat from
the Nine Lives Foundation, you're making a commitment to provide love, care, and medical treatment for the life of the cat, which can be up to 20 years. Adopting a cat is a serious commitment, but one that is rarely regretted! Please take this responsibility seriously. If you
are unable to make such a 20 year commitment, why not become a foster parent instead? |
