Amelia is a gorgeous 4 year old, spayed, Lynx Point Siamese girl. She came to us from San Jose Animal Care and Services on 10/14/07 where she was to be PTS. Amelia loves tummy rubs, bum scratches and all other forms of attention but she
really doesn't like to be picked up. She'll make someone a wonderful only kitty. She does well with the companionship of adult, laid back kitties but has no

Ben is a very handsome 6 year old, FIV+, black and white, tuxedo boy who came to us on 3/13/08 from San Jose Animal Care and Control. Being FIV+ is a death sentence in all of the municipal shelters in the area, which is just tragic as FIV+ kitties can live very long, healthy and happy lives. Ben is a wonderful example of how robust and healthy an FIV+ kitty can be. With a very deep rumble of a purr, Ben lets you know loud and clear when he's happy. He loves attention and chin scratches are his bliss. He'll reach out and tap you if you forget he's there, but how anyone could forget Ben is beyond us. He's definitely a boy we'll always remember.

Bessie is an awesome, front
declawed, 3-4 year old, spayed, black and white cow kitty.
She came to us from San Jose
Animal Care and Control on 10/21/07 when she was due to be PTS for excessive tartar build up on her teeth. She's had a brief tooth cleaning and is now just fine. She's a little wary of new people but the minute you talk nicely to her or show her even the slightest bit of affection, this sweet girl starts rolling around begging for tummy rubs.

BJ is a 4 year old, neutered, black and white male who came to us earlier this year from Martinez Animal Shelter with a broken jaw. "Broken Jaw" kitty, soon became simply BJ. Very mellow and laid back, this boy would be a great cat for someone looking for a buddy of a cat to hang out with. BJ loves chin scratches and sleeping in sun rays.
He has become a bit withdrawn and stressed in the shelter and would really benefit from being adopted or getting out of the shelter into foster care. Won't you give this boy a loving forever home?

Bosco is an approximately 5 years old, FIV+, M/N who came to us from MAS on 4-12-06. This boy is very mellow and would make a great companion for another FIV+ cat. Bosco is unflappable and does great with children, he's like a living teddy bear that tolerates squeezing and pretty much anything else a young child might do around a kitty. He also would do fine with a cat friendly dog.

Brioche is a lovely
8-10 year old, de-clawed calico kitty who came to us
early in 2006 from Martinez Animal Shelter. Brioche would love to be the companion for a Senior who will dote on her and let her laze about in sunny window sills and on the couch curled up close. Children, dogs and other kitties easily overwhelm this girl so the life of
leisure as an only kitty would be ideal for her. Brioche should not go to a home with children under the age of 5 years of age. Brioche nearly starved to death, due to illness when she arrived, and appears to

Bruno is a 10 year old, grey tabby, neutered male, with cerebellar hypoplasia. Bruno is a wonderful,
friendly, sweet and affectionate boy. He has many more years of life ahead of him and would love to spend them in a loving home.
Cerebellar Hypoplasia The cerebellum is the portion of the brain responsible for the control of motion. When a kitten is born with an underdeveloped cerebellum, the condition is known as congenital cerebellar hypoplasia. The infectious cause of this condition in cats is exposure to panleukopenia infection prior to birth. Improper development of the cerebellum may occur due to injury, poisoning or just from an accident in development in the uterus. It is generally possible to see signs of this condition almost as soon as the kitten is born. Affected animals have tremors and unusual jerky movements or may fall down when they try to move. The symptoms do not get worse as they age. As the kitten grows it will learn to compensate for its condition but there are usually lifelong signs of a decreased ability to coordinate movement. Almost all cats with congenital cerebellar hypoplasia can live happily as pets with a little special care to compensate for their disabilities.

| Cagney is a handsome, neutered, Senior Maine Coon boy. We're guessing that Cagney is anywhere from 12 to 14 years old.
Cagney has recently had a dental that was desperately needed, but this sweet boy is still not 100%. We suspect he has some underlying health condition that may
take him from us in the coming year. What he really needs is a home where he can be loved and enjoy his remaining days. We pulled him on 1/21/08 from the Lake County Animal Shelter.

Caine is a very handsome, 2 year old, neutered orange tabby and white boy. Great with other kitties, Caine would make a wonderful companion kitty for anyone looking for a mellow, low key kitty or a buddy for an existing kitty.

Calliope's family broke up, "mommy" couldn't take her and "daddy" didn't want her. So this beautiful girl in now looking for a new fur-ever home. Calliope in a DSH Calico, pure white with large orange and black markings, is 5 years old, already spayed (you can see her obvious ear tipping), and gentle and sweet. She loves to be petted, turning her chin up so we can reach her soft neck fur, and really revs up the purring machine. Her shots are not current, but otherwise, she's ready to go. Calliope is a bit shy at first, so a home without small children would probably be her first choice. She's a loving little lady who doesn't care much for canned wet food (she told us the less expensive dry food is just her cup of tea), is litter box trained, and who has incredibly soft fur. Calliope's a calm and quiet girl who's is just waiting for the right person to rescue her and love her. Are you her person?

Candi is a very pretty, 1-2 year old fawn colored tabby girl. She came to us from Los Banos Animal Shelter on 2/16/08. Candi clearly had a very nasty infection in both of her eyes when she was much younger as there appears to be scarring on both of them. The scars do not appear to affect her vision as she moves about as
gracefully as our other kitties. Candi is currently residing in our large play enclosure and doing very well with our other kitties.

| Casper is an adorable 10 month old orange tabby and white boy who came to us from Tehama County Animal Services on 10/13/07. He's
a little shy but once you let him come to you he LOVES to have his belly rubbed and turns into a little motor with his purring. You'll fall in love when you see him look at you with his gorgeous, orange eyes. He'll begin to purr the moment he sees a person looking at him.

Cedric is a handsome, chatterbox of a boy. He came to us on 3/24/08 from Los Banos Animal Shelter as an intact male. He has a ton to say and wouldn't even stop chattering to have his photo taken. He's a complete love. He does seem to talk less when he's being cuddled. He looks a bit worse for wear right now, but once we've got him neutered and bathed, this boy is going to be irresistible. He's got nothing but charm and good looks.

The two of them became fast friends and with Zander's help Cheeto has really come out of his shell. Cheeto was found as a stray and brought to us with Daisy, who he's very fond of. Chevy is a very handsome, 3 year old, neutered, Flame Point Siamese boy. Goofy, friendly and outgoing, Chevy seems to know he's a handsome boy as he is always posing and hamming it up for the camera. Chevy came to us with some nasty mattes and had to be shaved down to get them off so he's a little goofy looking, but who notices anything other than his striking blue eyes and uber loud purr? Chula is a gorgeous, 1 year old, dilute calico/Siamese mix female who came to us on 4/15/08 from the Kern County Animal Shelter. The shelter had called Chula "shy and withdrawn" but it only took this darling girl a few minutes before she was standing at the front of her cage begging for petting and cuddles. Chula is a very sweet and affectionate girl who loves attention
will make someone a wonderful companion. Chula is a very petite little girl at 7 lbs, and a year old, we think she's likely to stay small.

| Cole is a very handsome and charming, 2 year old guy. Very gentle and cuddly, this boy loves to lean his body into you for snuggles and heavy petting sessions. Cole was only just neutered, so he has the thick muscular body and chubby cheeks of a "Tom Cat", don't let this turn you away from this gentle giant. He has nothing but love and affection to give. When we neutered him we removed what we think was a VAS tumor and Cole tested FIV+. He'll need to be an indoor only cat and live in a home that knows that FIV+ cats can give their families as many happy years as an FIV- kitty.

Daisy is a very sweet, 1.5 year old, spayed, black and white tuxedo, DSH girl. Daisy was shy when she came to us but now she'll come running right up to you to beg for cuddles. She loves to be picked up and snuggled and even seems to like having her face kissed. She does very well with other cats and currently lives in our play enclosure with many other kitties.
Daisy was found as a stray and brought to us with her brother Cheeto in March of 2007 when she was 3-4 months old. It's taken some time, but Daisy is now a very
outgoing cuddle kitty. Daisy gets along well with all of the other kitties she's met, but she's really not wild about dogs. A dog free home would be ideal for this sweet girl.

| Daphne is a very sleek and stunning, 2 year old, all black, spayed female. Affectionate and friendly Daphne actually came to us in a feral trap after being trapped during a Trap-Neuter-Release program. To our
surprise the kitty that came out of the trap was full of purrs and head butts. Daphne can be a tad skittish in new situations but the minute you sit down she'll be in your lap working hard to get you to spend the rest of your day snuggling her close and rubbing her tummy. Fiona is a very pretty 2 year old, DMH, Calico who has had a very tough life. We pulled Fiona from San Jose Animal Care and Control in the early spring of 2006. We spayed her and found for her what we had hoped was a loving forever home. This June Fiona was returned with the comment that she was "feral" and she'd spent the entire year after her
adoption living outside and running from her adopted family. Upon examining her we discovered the horrible truth. We're not sure when it happened, but
Fiona had managed to push her front leg through her collar until it lodged in her armpit and began to dig in and cause her a great deal of pain.
By the time we got her back the wound was old and very infected from months of festering. Since June she's been recovering in our hospital with loads of antibiotics and loving care. She's begun to remember that people are not all out to hurt her and we tell her every day how sorry we are that we allowed her to be adopted by someone who cared so little for her well being. Freya arrived on 3/30/08 after being pulled from the Fresno SPCA with her four kittens. Freya's kittens have nearly all been adopted and she's back on her feet after dealing with four very

The Count a.k.a Gray is a handsome 3 year old boy. Gray's head butts are so strong that he can almost knock you over. Gray also cannot meow and his tongue slightly sticks out 50% of the time. In this picture,
his foster mom had just I let him in the house because he was just sitting at the sliding glass door staring in at her. "I melted," she said. "He walked right through the house and found the catnip toy...what fun watching him try to wrestle it!"

Harlequin came from the Peninsula Humane Society as a 12 week old feral kitten in July of 2005. We neutered him, notched his ear and sent him up to a feral colony so he'd have a some space to be feral. He moved into the house of the colony's caretaker in the summer of 2006 and decided that petting was okay. Since then he's become downright outgoing and affectionate. He loves attention, scratches, tummy rubs and snuggles, but still startles easily
around new people. Amazingly, Harlequin seems quite content to be indoor only and has shown no interested in going outside. Harlequin had been adopted out on April 12, 2007 to a couple from Pleasanton. On 1/11/08 we received a call from the Washoe County Regional Animal Services in Reno, Nevada. They got in a black and white cat on January 8th that had a microchip they were able to trace back to us as Harlequin. He was very sick and they wanted to track down his owner so they could stop him from being PTS when his stray hold was up on 1/14/08. The Nine Lives Foundation pulled him immediately and had him transported home and back into foster care for rehabilitation. His condition was deplorable. He had a nasty URI, severe
gingivitis and looked, "starved, beat up, scared and desperately in need of a bath."
Thankfully, Harlequin has returned to the wonderful, affectionate,
silly boy that we knew before he left us in April. We are not anxious to place him again, but would love for him to find a loving home where he will be safe and cared for as he so desperately deserves. We're pleased to hear his inquisitive chirps and see him running to us for lap time and petting.

Harriett is a very sweet and friendly, 8 month old, spayed
tortoiseshell girl. Harriett loves attention and will lean her whole body into you for pets and scratches. Harriett came to us from Los Banos Animal Control on 2/25/08. Horatio is a very handsome 2-3 year old, long haired, orange tabby and white boy. He's very long and big so we suspect he may be a Maine Coon mix. Unfortunately, when he arrived, intact from San Jose Animal Care and Services on 2/28/08, he was covered in mattes and needed to have a lion cut to remove the worst of his
dreads. We're not sure what his life was like before he arrived at the shelter in San Jose, but grooming was clearly not something he'd seen a lot of. In spite of his poor coat condition, Horatio is an utter love. He loves to have his fat cheeks scratched and squished and being petted and groomed is heaven for him. Jasper is a stunning, 2 year old, DLH, Buff tabby boy with Scottish Fold ears. We're not exactly sure what he is other than handsome, but he's definitely that. Jasper's forward and down, ears give him the appearance of being scared or aggressive when he's far from either.  | Jezebel is a beautiful 3 year old, spayed, all black DLH female who takes on a stunning frosted look when her winter coat comes in. We think she'd make a wonderful companion for another kitty. Jezebel is very slow to warm up to new people and will likely take time to adjust to any new environment. Jezebel gets terribly afraid and stressed during major change and was very unhappy during our recent move. She also gets very stressed when caged. Jordan is a handsome, DSH, 1.5 year old, orange tabby and white boy. Gentle, sweet and outgoing, this boy would make a wonderful first kitty for a family. Jordan seems to do well with other kitties but he's really a people oriented kitty. He loves to cuddle up to his people and enjoys long petting sessions. | Josephine is a petite 8 lb., 3 year old, all black, long haired, spayed female. Josephine and her two sons were owner surrenders at Martinez Animal Shelter, where a lack of space was to be an end to all of them. We thought they all deserved so much more than that so we pulled

Josie is an affectionate, playful and friendly, stunning Silver and Black, spayed, 2 year old, tabby girl. This wonderful girl was going to be PTS at San Jose Animal Care and Services on 10/7/07 because she doesn't like other cats.
Josie loves tummy rubs and all other forms of attention but other cats stress her out a great deal. She'll make someone a wonderful only kitty.

Karl is a handsome, 1 year old, all white kitty with a grey tail and a large grey smudge on his head. Karl is a very friend and curious boy who loves the company of people and other cats. He will head butt you and occasionally play bite to get your attention. He should probably not go to a home with small children but we' think he'd probably be fine with a cat friendly dog. He came to us on 12-14-07 from San Jose Animal Care and Control.

Kimmie is a very pretty and playful, 8-10 month old black and white tuxedo girl. We pulled her on 1/21/08 from the Lake County Animal Shelter. When she arrived, Kimmie was very, very pregnant. Before we could get her in to be spayed, Kimmie delivered 3 kittens. She is now out in foster care raising her babies but she'll be available for adoption again soon.

Larkin is a gentle and sweet,
spayed, 1 year old, white DSH girl with a smudge of grey on her forehead. She came to us on 3/22/08 from Lake County Animal Shelter with Guss. They were surrendered with another kitty (all intact) by a family with "too many cats". Larkin has clearly been loved and treated well in her life, even if she was unfixed and one of many. She does well with other kitties, although she seems to prefer to hang out with the boys. She'll make someone a super special lifetime companion.

Lola is a very pretty, orange and brown,
Tortoiseshell girl. Lola came to us on 3/8/08 from Alameda Animal services, pregnant, malnourished and barely a year old. She promptly spayed her and Lola has more than blossomed. Lola loves attention from people and other kitties alike. She will purr and make biscuits, with the most blissful expression on her face when you talk to her. She clearly longs for a family who will love her and make her dreams of a forever family come true.

My name is Madeline. I'm an eye-catching long-haired black and white Maine Coon mix kitty. I love to be admired and get lots of attention because I'm worth it! I have a sweet little face, with big golden eyes, and am rather small for my age, which is about 6 or 7 months old. My long hair is very silky and fluffy, and my caregivers here at the shelter tell me I'm a real beauty. I came to live here with some of my friends because my owner couldn't take me with her when our family fell apart, and "Pops" didn't want me and wouldn't let me stay with him. I'm looking for a home with someone who will appreciate how special I am and who will want me to live with them in their home. I'm good at using the litter box, and I'll eat pretty much anything you put in front of me. (I wouldn't want to appear ungrateful.)

Magic is a wonderful 3.5 year old, neutered, grey and white tuxedo, tri-pod boy. Magic does well with other cats, but he is a dominant alpha cat and an attention hog. He would do best as only kitty
or with one other mellow cat. Magic came to us in August of 2006, from Martinez Animal Shelter where he was being held in an animal cruelty case. Magic had been shot by a bee-bee gun that shattered his front leg. We removed his leg when he arrived at the Nine Lives Foundation and Magic's whole demeanor changed. He was no longer in pain and the world was suddenly bright and beautiful.
