Avis is a sweet, DSH, brown tabby, tripod girl. Avis was living in the Avis, rental car parking lot as a feral when the person caring for her noticed that her rear leg looked misshapen. When Avis was trapped and brought to us we found that a massive tumor had eaten away most of the bone of her lower leg. Once the tumor was gone Avis healed quickly. She's a house cat at the shelter and slowly warming up to the idea of being held and loved. Avis can actually be picked up and cuddled close these days. We're optimistic that one day she may even find a forever home of her very own, in the meantime, we're happy to have her around. Baaa is a sweet, spayed, DLH, all black female. Always an indoor only kitty, Baaa does best as an only kitty and should not have small children or dogs in her home. Baaa needs a loving family who appreciates the "Diva" type of kitty in their life. Baaa is a queen looking for a throne to reside from. Baaa was born in May of 2005.

Bast is a gentle, handsome, neutered, Chocolate Point Siamese / Snowshoe, DSH, male (est. DOB 6/20/07). Bast came to us as a feral 10 week old kitten in September of 2007. Bast should be an indoor only kitty and should go to a home without dogs.

Baylor is a hyper, active, energetic, DSH, all black boy. Baylor came to us from the Kern County Animal Shelter on 6/9/08 at 7 weeks old. He does wonderfully with other cats but can play a bit rough so he would probably do best in a home without small children. He's full of endless energy, so be warned this boy gets the zoomies! Baylor can bite when over stimulated, so he'd do best in a home with a cat savvy owner who can be aware of his body language and tell when he's reached his limit.

Beatrice is a gorgeous, 2 year old Himalayan/Ragdoll mix. She was on the list to be PTS at San Francisco Animal Control. She was turned in because she started beating up the 18 year old cat she lived with. She hissed when she got to the shelter, so they would not adopt her out. She does fine once she's out of a cage, but becomes very stressed out and aggressive once she's put into a cage. Beatrice loves to be groomed and was very patient when her mattes were being combed out.

Big Red is very a very handsome, orange tabby, DSH male. A little on the plus side, we think Big Red is around 3 years old (Approx DOB: 6/05). He's a quiet mellow boy who can't get enough head rubs. Such a loving boy he likes to roll over so you can pet his tummy. He is a sweetie and certainly came from a home where he knew love. People friendly is he but is not a lap cat and he's not wild about other cats. He loves to sit in the window and look outside and is a very quiet easygoing fellow. He would be a great companion for someone wanting a loving sweet boy. He has gorgeous eyes and he is looking for that special person to adopt him and take him to his new home.

BJ is a 5 year old (est. DOB 4/04), neutered, black and white male who came to us earlier this year from Martinez Animal Shelter with a broken jaw. "Broken Jaw" kitty, soon became simply BJ. Very mellow and laid back, this boy would be a great cat for someone looking for a buddy of a cat to hang out with. BJ loves chin scratches and sleeping in sun rays. He has become a bit withdrawn and stressed in the shelter and would really benefit from being adopted or getting out of the shelter into foster care. Won't you give this boy a loving forever home?

Bobcat is a 3 year old (est. DOB 4/06), neutered, Lynx Point Siamese / DLH mix, male who came to us as a found stray surrender on 4/10/09. Bobcat was covered in mattes and had inner eyelids that had grown into his eyes, nearly blinding him. He's since been neutered, shaved down to a Lion Cut and had entropion surgery to repair his eyes. Bobcat is a dear sweet boy who loves to bask in the sun or to drape himself along side his person. He'd make an excellent indoor/outdoor kitty, in a safe neighborhood.

Brioche is a lovely 10 year old, de-clawed calico kitty who came to us early in 2006 from Martinez Animal Shelter. Brioche would love to be the companion for a Senior who will dote on her and let her laze about in sunny window sills and on the couch curled up close. Children, dogs and other kitties easily overwhelm this girl so the life of leisure as an only kitty would be ideal for her. Brioche will do fine with one or two other kitties if she gets enough love from her people. Brioche should not go to a home with children under the age of 5 years of age. Brioche nearly starved to death, due to illness when she arrived, and appears to be making up for it now. She's overweight and really needs to go to a home where someone will manage her weight and control her diet.

Busby is a handsome, black and white, 8 year old, (est. DOB 2/2001), DLH, Persian boy. Busby has had a tough year so far. According to the shelter we pulled Zowey and Busby from, their owner died of Alzheimer's and was bedridden for some time. The shelter staff was so happy these two were rescued. Busby and Zowey are both very friendly, affectionate and all around wonderful cats and very bonded to each other. These two came to us on 1/24/09 from the Fairmont Animal Shelter in San Leandro.

Candi is a very pretty, fawn colored tabby girl (est. DOB 7/2006). She came to us from Los Banos Animal Shelter on 2/16/08. Candi clearly had a very nasty infection in both of her eyes when she was much younger as there appears to be scarring on both of them. The scars do not appear to affect her vision as she moves about as gracefully as our other kitties. Candi is currently residing in our large play enclosure and doing very well with our other kitties.

Cheeto is a very laid back 1.5 year old, neutered, orange tabby and white, DSH boy. Cheeto does very well with other cats, he's especially bonded to his buddy Zander. The two of them became fast friends and with Zander's help Cheeto has really come out of his shell. Cheeto was found as a stray and brought to us with Daisy, who he's very fond of. Both would make excellent

Cherie is a sweet, 1 year old, DSH, black and white tuxedo girl. Cherie came to us on 11/22/08 from the Fremont Animal Shelter. Cherie is quiet, sweet, and does not demand attention. She was in a cage at the Fremont Shelter the longest of the cats that we pulled on 11/22. She's settling in at NLF pretty well so far, but seems to be clinging to her plushy bed as a safety zone. Cherie is a sweetheart, she just needs a little encouragement and love to adjust to all of the changes she's had to deal with.

Clarence is a sweet, 1.2 year old, DSH, black and white tuxedo boy. Clarence came to us on 11/22/08 from the Fremont Animal Shelter. Clarence is a quiet guy who doesn't demand attention but will lean his whole body in for pets once you let him know he's going to get some loving. Clarence is a sweetheart, he just needs a little encouragement and love to adjust to all of the changes he's had to deal with.

Cleopatra is a lovely 2 year old, spayed, all black female. She does very well with other cats. She has a long life of purrs ahead of her. Cleo is a very social cat who loves to hang out with her kitty friends and cuddle up close to her people. Cypress is a handsome neutered, 11 lb 7 oz., 2-3 year old, Maine Coon mix, buff tabby and white tuxedo male. Cypress was found as a stray in San Jose and ended up in the shelter where he was due to be PTS for being so scared. He came to us from San Jose Animal Care and Control on 2/22/09. He's found peace in the comfort and safety of his soft padded cube. He happily leans into your hand for pets and scratches if you reach in and pet him but he cowers when he's pulled out of the safety of his cube. We think in a non-shelter environment this sweet boy would blossom. He's not feral. He doesn't hiss, growl or scratch he just cowers unless he's feeling safe. We think a quiet home with out dogs or children would be best for this darling boy. We're betting he'd be quite the snuggler in a home environment.

Daniel is a sweet, if shy, and handsome, buff tabby and white boy (est. DOB 4/08). He was found as a kitten in a field in Redwood City. who loves to be petted and talked to. He is very active, playful and sweet and gets along well with other cats. Daniel is very energetic and spend most of his days playing with and creating new toys out of regular household items. Daniel is a major snuggle bug too and loves nothing more than to be brushed, petted, cuddled close and scratched all over.

Dasha is a sweet older girl who loves to lounge about and loves to be groomed. She does well with other kitties and would make an excellent companion kitty.

Dean is a handsome, neutered, black and white tuxedo boy, mostly black with an adorable pick nose.
Born around April 30, 2008, Dean is an Olympic level gymnasts who excel in leaps and the high jump. He is a sweet, goofy, cuddly and precocious boy who loves to . They love to play and can jump higher than a flying super hero. They are well known to purr at the sight of a person and provide drive by love in between bouts of wrestling and winning medals. While it's not necessary, we would love to keep these boys together.

Diego and Simon were owner surrenders, the owners couldn't keep them because they were moving into an apartment. Simon and Diego like children and are very bonded to each other. Dreamer is a friendly, outgoing, affectionate guy who loves to be held and get scratched. Duchess is a DSH, dilute torti, DSH, 7 year old (est. DOB 3/02) who came to us with her sister Queenie as doorstep drop offs, abandoned in February. These sweet sisters are a bit traumatized by their change in circumstances. They're slowly coming out of their shells, extending cautious purrs and little meows. Duchess is the more outgoing and and bold of the two but she is quite bonded to and dependant on her sister.

Felix and Oscar are sweet and gentle, if a little shy, boys who came to us as owner surrenders after being adopted out from the Tri-Valley Animal Shelter with ringworm. Their owner didn't want to deal with ringworm. Their fungus free now and ready for a forever home of their own. They are handle able but in the shelter environment they are a bit withdrawn. They are not aggressive or rough when being handled. Felix and Oscar are very bonded to each other and should be adopted out as a pair.

Fiona is a very pretty 2 year old, DMH, Calico who has had a very tough life. We pulled Fiona from San Jose Animal Care and Control in the early spring of 2006. We spayed her and found for her what we had hoped was a loving forever home. This June Fiona was returned with the comment that she was "feral" and she'd spent the entire year after her adoption living outside and running from her adopted family. Upon examining her we discovered the horrible truth. We're not sure when it happened, but Fiona had managed to push her front leg through her collar until it lodged in her armpit and began to dig in and cause her a great deal of pain. By the time we got her back the wound was old and very infected from months of festering. Since June she's been recovering in our hospital with loads of antibiotics and loving care. She's begun to remember that people are not all out to hurt her and we tell her every day how sorry we are that we allowed her to be adopted by someone who cared so little for her well being. We plan to ensure that her next home is the "right" home and that she has a happily ever after. Can you offer her that home?

Forrest is a handsome, neutered, 1.5 year old, Lynx Point Siamese mix male. Forrest came to us from California Animal Rescue in Sonoma County. He, his siblings and mom were rescued from a rundown farm property. The cats were starving, being thrown scraps periodically, and the horses were starved and neglected. Some teens were trying to help take care of the animals, but they ultimately decided to call animal control about the horses, so they got the cats of the property the day they called animal control so the cats wouldn't get confiscated. Forrest was one of the kittens - he was about 8 months old, when he came to us in mid March of 2008. Very cute. Both of his rear legs are massively deformed in what we believe to be a birth defect. Halfway down they each twist almost 180 degrees. He has use of both of his legs and he can put pressure on them, but he looks a bit wobbly when he runs around. The oddness of his gait is how the rescue came up with the name "Forrest". Forrest is extremely shy, but he's coming around slowly - now he loves to be petted and scratched and meows at us. However, he hates being picked up or held. He could benefit from additional socialization.

Francesca arrived on 2/9/09 after being pulled from the Los Banos Animal Shelter when she was very pregnant. Francesca is a very gentle 1-2 year old, white kitty with brown tabby splotches. She will lean her whole body into you for head butts and chin scratches or happily snuggle in your arms while you carry her about. Gretchen is a 2 year old, Maine Coon mix female who originally came to us from Los Banos Animal Shelter in December of 2006 at 6 weeks old. Gretchen has had a tough time since then. She first owner passed due to breast cancer and her second owner entered a convalescent home. Gretchen has not adjusted well. She has spent her life as an only kitty and finds the kitties around her in the shelter to be overwhelming and very stressful. She doesn't show well. She would do best in a home without children or dogs where she is an only cat.

Grover is a handsome DMH, FIV+, orange tabby boy with bright green eyes. Grover came to us very, very ill with a mouth full of rotten teeth, which we've since pulled. He's probably always going to have some issues but we all can't help but love him and he's more than ready to find his forever home. If you're looking for a kitty who loves to be hugged and thrives on lap time, Grover is most definitely your cat.

Hermes is a gentle girl who came to us in March of 2005 at 10 months old. She was named Hermes by the volunteer staff because although she has a deformed rear foot, she seems to think she has wings on her feet. Hermes has begun to develop arthritis in her deformed foot that seems worse in winter. Hermes is really beginning to show the strain of spending 4 years in a shelter, although this sweet girl has no idea that there is anything different about her, she doesn't know what life could be like in a forever home of her very own. Will you make a place in your life for this special girl?

Highlander is a handsome boy who came to us at 3 months of age from Humane Society of Silicon Valley on July 14th of 2006 with ringworm. Highlander is the last of his littermates not yet adopted. Highlander is very cat friendly and would make a great companion to an existing cat. Highlander developed an Upper Respiratory Infection in December of 2007 that while he's now completely recovered, caused him to have a head tilt that we think may be permanent. Highlander is a very affectionate and friendly boy who would make a wonderful family member for any lucky family.

Jax is a handsome 2 year old, black and white tuxedo boy. He was rescued from Bayfront Park where someone had obviously dumped him months earlier. Even though very scared with scratches all over his face, he has turned out to be a loving cat with just a little special attention. He is still somewhat shy and doesn't like to be held (maybe with time) but he loves to be scratched and have belly rubs.

Jeeves is a large, neutered male cat about 5 years old who Dr. Thompson pulled from San Jose Animal Care and Control in the summer of 2006. Jeeves is a very affectionate and gentle boy. He is very mellow and would love to find a nice home with a place for him near a window where he can enjoy the sun. There are a lot of tuxedo cats, but once you got to know him you'd also feel his wonderful personality sets him apart.

Jezebel is a beautiful 5 year old (est. DOB 5/04), spayed, all black DLH female who takes on a stunning frosted look when her winter coat comes in. We think she'd make a wonderful companion for another kitty. Jezebel is very slow to warm up to new people and will likely take time to adjust to any new environment. Jezebel gets terribly afraid and stressed during major change and was very unhappy during our recent move. She also gets very stressed when caged. We suspect she would do best in a quiet, stable home without young children. Please consider giving this quiet girl a chance to be someone's very own kitty.

Jingles is a cute 1.5 year old, DSH, black and white tuxedo, spayed female who came to us from Fremont Animal Shelter on 1/9/09. Jingles is very affectionate, friendly and outgoing girl. Jingles came to us with nasty case of constipation that nearly had her put to sleep. She's since been treated, and should be alright without any further treatments. Jingles loves to be petted and adores people. She is a laid back girl and would make a great companion kitty for anyone looking for a loving lap cat.

Joey is a handsome, DSH, 1 year old (est. DOB 4/2008), DSH, orange and white tuxedo male who came to us from Los Banos Animal Shelter on 3/17/09. Joey is a sweet boy who loves to crawl into your arms for snuggles and heavy petting. He is a dear, sweet and affectionate boy. Joey is so gentle you can hold him in nearly any position and he'll happily purr and tell you how much he loves you.

Josh is a handsome, 15+ year old, white and grey, DLH, neutered boy. Josh is a bit cold since his lion cut, but he probably feels better than he did when he was all covered in mattes. Josh loves to be picked up and held. He loves to have his chin scratched and will happily lean into you for bum scratches. Josh came to us on 1/8/09 from the Oakland Animal Shelter with his buddy Matthew after their owner died they'd been together for 10 years and we'd really like to keep them together.

Joshua is a handsome, 12+ year old, brown tabby boy. Joshua is pretty unhappy in the shelter but he loves to have his chin scratched and will happily lean into you for bum scratches. Joshua came to us on 3/9/08 from the Kern County Animal Shelter.
Joshua loves to wander about but here at the shelter he pees on everything so he's stuck in a cage. We'd love if he could be adopted out to a home where he

Julep is a pretty, sweet and uber soft, 1 year old calico girl and sister to Rossi. We pulled siblings and her on 1/21/08 from the Lake County Animal Shelter. Julep was shy when she first arrived but she's really come out of her shell. Julep will come running up to you for love and pets now. She's still a bit wary of being picked up, but she'll crawl into your lap for snuggles, quick as a flash.

Karl is a handsome, 1 year old, all white kitty with a grey tail and a large grey smudge on his head. Karl is a very friend and curious boy who loves the company of people and other cats. He will head butt you and occasionally play bite to get your attention. He should probably not go to a home with small children but we' think he'd probably be fine with a cat friendly dog. Lola is a super soft 13 lb 4 oz., spayed, 7 year old, Maine Coon mix, black and white tuxedo girl. She came to us from San Jose Animal Care and Control on 2/22/09. She was signed down for heavy dental tartar with an exposed root and hair loss on her back. We think the Depo shot we gave her for her flea allergies and a dental will make her as good as new. Lola is a snuggler. She loves to be carried around and hugged and getting groomed is close to her idea of heaven.

Lotto is a handsome all white male with a striking black tail. He came to us from San Jose Animal Care and Control on 3/3/09. As an intact male with a mild cold, Lotto's time was up. We named him Lotto because his winning ticket came when one of our volunteers decided to take him from the shelter. Lotto is a great boy whose
personality is bigger than could possibly fit in his tiny boy. Goofy, gentle and sweet Lotto will make a great boy's cat.

Luther is a solid, if a bit chunky, swirly brown and black tabby boy (est. DOB. 4/06). He's very sweet and affectionate and outgoing. He's quite the little leg rubber who loves to have his chin and bum scratched. Goofy, friendly, outgoing and playful, Luther would be a wonderful companion for another cat or a great only kitty. He arrived from San Jose Animal Care and Control where he was due to be PTS for having a little tartar on his teeth in December of 2007. Luther is FIV+.

Magic is a wonderful 4 year old, neutered, grey and white tuxedo, tri-pod boy. Magic does well with other cats, but he is a dominant alpha cat and an attention hog. He would do best as only kitty or with one other mellow cat. Magic came to us in August of 2006, from Martinez Animal Shelter where he was being held in an animal cruelty case. Magic had been shot by a bee-bee gun that shattered his front leg. We removed his leg when he arrived at the Nine Lives Foundation and Magic's whole demeanor changed. He was no longer in pain and the world was suddenly bright and beautiful. Magic has Feline Stomatitis, essentially a chronic case of Gingivitis, for which he needs monthly steroid injections.

Mia is a very pretty, 1 year old, tortoiseshell-Point Siamese mix girl. Mia came to us on 3/8/08 from Alameda Animal services, pregnant, malnourished and barely a year old. She promptly spayed her and Mia has blossomed. Mia loves attention and purrs and makes biscuits, with the most blissful expression on her face when you talk to her. She clearly longs for a family who will love her and take her into their confidence. This is a girl who can keep a secret. But her love of affection isn't a secret at all.

Milagro is a stunningly handsome, neutered, 8-10 year old, DSH, classic black and silver marbled tabby boy. He came to us from Alameda Animal Services on 3/8/08 with 2 other kitties (Mia and Lola). Milagro had been hit by a car at some point and his tail is paralyzed as a result of his accident. We're assessing the damage and may remove his tail if the injury requires it. Milagro loves to rub against any willing person and thrives on chin scratches and being petted. He's really a very affectionate and outgoing boy.
