Arrange a Bequest: Bequests may be made in your Will to the Nine Lives Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation. The bequests in whatever amount you choose should be contained within the text of your Will. If you have already prepared your Will, contact your attorney for any changes necessary to reflect your wishes. In order for us to maintain our records on bequests, we would require the following information from you:
- A copy of the page of the Will indicating the bequest by you.
- A copy of the insurance policy, if you have chosen this method to leave money to the Nine Lives Foundation. This method also requires no estate taxes and passes automatically to the beneficiary.
- The name of the attorney preparing your estate forms.
All Bequests are greatly appreciated to help preserve the health and lives of our cats. If you do not have an attorney, check your local phone directory for their listings.
(Please read and sign the Bequest Waiver, then complete the Standard Bequest Form, and if we're accepting a cat, please complete the Cat Care Registration)
For the Cat Lover
- Socialize our shelter cats to help make them feel more comfotable with people, thus more adoptable
- Adoptions councelors; help people find their purr-fect match
- Groomers (brushing, bathing, clipping claws)
- Determine cat's Feline-ality (personality screening)
- General care (freshen enclosures, scoop litter, check food and water)
- Transport cats between the shelter and nearby Clinic
- Give extra support to cats in need (old, ill, shy, special needs etc.)
- Become a foster parent and care for cats and kittens in your home until a Forever Home can be found

- General cleaning (folding laundry, washing dishes, sweeping, litter scooping, etc.)Building maintenance

All volunteers go through an orientation process, receive training and sign a waiver before beginning their activities at the shelter.
We also have regular group volunteer social meetings so you can meet the other helpers at the shelter.

The Nine Lives Foundation is looking for reliable people to become a foster parents. Fostering is challenging, fun and rewarding. If you love animals, and have the space and time to open your heart to a foster animal, you will find it immeasurably rewarding. - Consider underwriting a portion of our monthly utility, staffing and rent expenses. Our utility bills are ~ $1,500/month, staff members are paid $6,000/ month, and rent is $4,500/month. Every dollar helps!
All donations to the
Nine Lives Foundation are tax deductible and can either be payable in person at the shelter, on the website, or by check / credit card by mail to the Feline Well-Care Clinic.
The large "My Mutt" pictures on the walls of Pet Food Express stores are images of pets that have been adopted from various Bay Area agencies and rescue groups. These photos are our way of celebrating these wonderful animals and also a means of helping out the rescue organizations and shelters who do the tireless work of rescuing animals and finding homes for them.
When you donate at least $250 to an animal shelter or rescue group of your choice, your pet's photo will be produced & mounted on a wall of a Pet Food Express store. For a donation of $500 or more, you can keep the poster after it has been displayed, for about twelve months, in one of our store locations.
